Augustine University Political Science Students Visit NIIA for Hands-On Learning in Foreign Policy Political Science students from Augustine University embarked on an educational tour of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos on Friday, 7th February, 2025, to deepen their understanding of Nigeria’s foreign policy and international relations. The visit, organized by the Department of Political Science and International Relations, was aimed at exposing students to the practical workings of international diplomacy and policy formulation. The Augustine University team was warmly received by Dr. Bolarinwa and Mrs. Ijeoma Aniele on behalf of the Institute’s Director General, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae. During the interactive session, students gained insights into the operations of the NIIA and its crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s foreign policy decisions. As part of the tour, the delegation visited the Early Warning System Center, where Dr. Ilesanmi explained the significance of the situation room in monitoring and maintaining Nigeria’s stability. The students also attended a session with Mr. Yinka Ahmed, a researcher at the Institute, who spoke on International Politics and Diplomacy. He provided an in-depth analysis of how international policies are developed and the complexities surrounding global diplomatic relations. The students were accompanied on the field trip by the Head of Department, Dr. Bode Ladi-Soares, alongside faculty members Dr. Dare Akindoyin and Mr. Akinwunmi Obafemi, including a staff in the Public Relations Unit, Miss Joy Innocent. The tour provided a firsthand experience of international policy mechanisms, reinforcing classroom knowledge with practical exposure to global affairs.
